Following the earthquake last week there was a second earthquake in Nepal on the 12 of May. This earthquake had a magnitude of 7.3. At least 42 people have been killed in this quake and 1006 injured, 8000 people were killed in the first quake. The latest quake struck at 12:35 Nepali time (06:50 GMT) and was centred about 76km (47 miles) east of Kathmandu, in a rural area close to the Chinese border.
People saw massive landslides and buildings collapse beneath them. Short term effects such as fires an buildings collapsing could be seen across the country. Within the next few weeks they could begin to rebuild homes, hospitals and other major buildings, however many people will still be out of a home and being unable to protect themselves from the elements. Even in months time people could still be dying as they may still be out of a home which would leave them exposed to diseases and they could get hypothermia or frostbite without the warmth of a home. People without food people could die of starvation or dehydration. So the death toll in Nepal could still rise.
